We love AnythingbutiPod though we are not totally sold to their sensibility. The the iRiver SPINN for example. A 4GB iRiver Spinn would set you back $250 or $50 more than an iPod Nano 4G with a 16GB capacity. Sure, the iRiver SPINN has more features than the Nano but a higher capacity iPod Touch (8GB), which definitely has more features than the iRiver SPINN. AnythingbutiPod admits the price is inhibitive but also goes on to say that the SPINN brings back iRiver to the competitive PMP game. They reason that with this price, one can only expect the best parts in your PMP. Surprisingly, sound quality is not that good although the touchscreen has Haptics, which should enjoyable.

Engadget has a video demonstrating the SPINN interface. Of course, the SPINN PMP is a touchscreen device as well. Storage maxes out at 16GB. In the U’K. it has been announced with a DAB tuner and it’s such a nice-looking device someone in China has already cloned it.

The iRiver M3 is a PMP/ PND with 3.5-inch screen. Really not as exciting as COWON’s announcement of the S9 Curve but iRiver has the Unit II waiting behind the curtains for officialization so stay tuned. We’d really love to learn more about this media center-cum-PMP from iRiver.

We have yet to hear about the availability of iRiver’s W7 outside of Asia. The iRiver W7 is not the perfect iRiver PMP but it’s not bad either and the unique combination of stylus-based touchscreen and joystick would no doubt tempt quite a few people looking for a portable video player. What we know is that the W7 is only available in Korea and China and in the latter, consumers get a bonus 300-yuan price cut sending the W7 to just under 2000 yuan ($293 US) category.

Just to recap, the iRiver W7 has a 3-inch 480 × 272 screen, support for WMV, AVI, SWF, MP3, WMA and Flash games. It has 8GB of onboard storage with microSD slot for memory extension.

This is unexpected because we’ve always thought, the PMP will be controlled using the hinge spin-wheel on the right side with a new D-Click system (supposed to be dubbed SPINN). Even the FCC leak was mistaken about this. iRiver had us all fooled on this one. Worse, we have no idea if we want it, not having any clue what the UI is like.

Officially, it has a 3.3-inch touchscreen (AMOLED, ladies and gents) with 480 x 272-pixel resolution. It’s equipped with T-DMB, Bluetooth and DAB, supposedly and will come at quite a good pricing: 4GB for $259 and 8GB for $299 or thereabouts for Korean pricing. No word on US pricing or US availability but the UK is supposed to get the iRiver SPINN August.

The iRiver SPINN has hit the FCC with the version boasting DAB and DMB support. I’m not sure U.S. users will have a lot of use for DAB radio and DMB TV tuners. The PMP will probably be available in the U.K. by August. The iRiver SPINN has a 3.2-inch AMOLED screen and support for 30fps video playback. It can play AVI, MWV, SWF (Flash), MP3, WMA, OGG. It has Bluetooth and FM. The photo above may not look much, but that is not the manufacturer’s fault but the FCC.
