The COWON O2, along with the S9, will be available in November. The O2 is a 4.3-inch AMOLED player with DMB support and should be priced like the A3 - not the most affordable PMP out there but, hey, it’s got a 4.3-inch AMOLED screen and NINE hours of video playback. The COWON S9 hasn’t been priced yet. I’ll be interested to know if the price is competitive with iPod. After all, we’ve dubbed this 3.3-inch player an iPod killer.

COWON has released the specs of the delicious S9 Curve, otherwise known as the Korean iPod Touch Killer (our own coinage, actually). The 3.3-inch 480 x 272-pixel touchscreen is capacitive and supports 16 million colors. It will also have DMB and DAB, FM and A2DP Bluetooth. The UI is Flash-based and we already know the inclusion of a G-Sensor. The 500 Mhz dual-core processorshould give the user very good video playback indeed as well as other fancy apps. It supports AVI, WMV, MP4/H.264 (Max 480 x 272, 30 fps), MP3, WMA, FLAC, OGG Vorbis, Lyrics. It has TV out. No pricing but launch date is October.

The COWON O2 has a huge 4.3-inch AMOLED screen complemented by up to 32GB of storage. We already mentioned it supports DMB TV. What we haven’t mentioned is the awesome file support of this mammoth (this adjective is warranted) PMP: ivX, XviD, WMV, H.264, M-JPEG, MPEG-4 SP / ASP, MPEG1 videos and MP3, WMA, AC3, AAC, FLAC, OGG, Apple Lossless, WAV, G.726, PCM, True Audio , Monkey Audio, MusePack. Wow, that Monkey Audio (APE lossless) support is just awesome, though not that unusual if one were used to buying Chinese MP4s. Still no pricing. It comes in pink, white and black and plays 18 hours of music and 9 hours of video.

Even before the iPod Nano 4G is officially announced by Apple, COWON would’ve killed it with the newly announced S9 Curve, a deliciously designed PMP in a metal casing. It has a 3.3-inch 480 x 272-pixel AMOLED screen, which is a capacitive touchscreen, and 500 MHz of dual-core processing power. T-DMB, G-Sensor (for gesture control) and dynamic dictionary is among its features. The COWON S9 Curve plays 40 hours of continuous music. Looks pretty expensive too.

COWON has also announced, besides the S9 Curve, two other new products. We’ll write about those later on in the day.

You can’t get more luxurious in the PMP world than COWON’s new 5-inch P5. It’s a 800×480-pixel touchscreen player with UI support for Widget and Haptics, T-DMB and Bluetooth. No WiFi, though, and for Koreans this is not a problem but it does allow USB WiFi. It’s an HDD player with 40GB, 60GB and 80GB versions available. File support includes  WMV, MPG, OGM, DivX, Xvid, MPEG4, WMV9, AVI, ASF, MP3, WMA, AC3 and with the RMI Alchemy AU1250 700Mhz CPU, you won;t have any problem playing video files perfectly on the P5. The COWON P5 comes in black, platinum and red and will be released July 29 in Korea.

Other specs of the COWON P5: AVdic + Dictionary, plays 9 hours of video and hairline metal body should feel fantastic to the hands.

COWON America has announce large capacities of two critically acclaimed COWON PMPs, the A3 and the Q5W.

The 80GB COWON A3 will be available May 26 for an MSRP of $439.99. Meanwhile, the Q5W, a PMP with much more features will be available June for $599.99. The players will be available in these retail outlets: JetMall (www.jetmall.net) and Amazon.com, Newegg.com, B&H Photo-Video, ZipZoomFly.com and eBay.com.

The COWON A3 PMP is not the best looking PMP in the world but it sure has a lot of fans, who I’m sure will be delighted that the A3 can now compete with other HDD PMPs in the market in terms of storage capacity. It’s not 250GB like China’s recent offerings but you get the COWON brand and what it all means in terms of quality and build. Specs and performance, presumably, is similar to previous A3 models. This one costs €448 or about $698. Pricey yes, but this is one of the highly regarded PMPs of its size (of the 4-inch screen).

The 16GB COWON D2 is available at JetMall.net for $239.99. Not a bad price, though when our friends at GenerationMP3 first spotted it a few hours ago it was only around $225. The features listed are just what we expected from the D2 without any significant changes except the storage capacity. The 16GB version was announced a few months back and, honestly, it is taking COWON awhile.

The N3 is one of the best PNDs in the market today and for people who prefer to class it out, the Korean company has come up with this idea. The wood is Burl Walnut, a very popular type of wood I’ve heard. It has similar specs with the non-wood N3. Price hasn’t been announced but it should come with a significant premium.
