We’ve heard rumors about 4GB iPod Nano 4Gs going to India. Rumor has it the original price of the 8GB and 16GB Nano 4Gs were originally intended for the lower capacities. Well, in the Philippines, they are. Filipinos will be getting the 4GB version for 7490 PHP or roughly $157 and the 8GB version for 8990 PHP or around $189. This 4GB version costs more than the 8GB version in US retail and the 8GB version approaches the 16GB. What the heck is this all about?

Not only did Apple apparently copy the new iPod Nano’s long form factor from the Zune, it also pilfered the idea of introducing a 16GB version from the Microsoft PMP. Oiginally, Apple planned to release two Nano 4G versions, the 4GB and 8GB but upon learning that Microsoft was going to release a 16GB Zune and to make matters more competitive, Microsoft priced the 16GB Zune $199, whch was what the 8GB was initially going for. Well, you know the rest. Apple in the end announced the 8GB Nano 4G, slapped it with the original 4GB price and then produced a 16GB version with the 8GB price tag. The 4GB Nano. Last we heard it was announced in some select territories. Thank goodness for competition we’re getting awesome products, great storage for the best price possible. In the Nano’s case, double the storage for the ame price.

While an iPhone 2.1 jailbreak is yet to be released, some concerned jailbreak enthusiasts have released an iPod Touch 2.1 GUI jailbreak.

While an iPhone 2.1 jailbreak is yet to be released, some concerned jailbreak enthusiasts have released an iPod Touch 2.1 GUI jailbreak. It’s based on the QuickPwn app created by the DevTeam and has been modified to pwn firmware 2.1 of the iPod Touch. There are mixed reactions in the comments section of the developers site. Some like it as it works perfectly with iTune 8 and their 2.1-running iPod Touch while some complain that certain apps don’t function normally anymore and suggest sticking to with 2.0.2 at the moment.

My advice to those who would like to jailbreak their iPod Touch 2.1; go ahead and download it if you really can’t wait, but if you can manage to squeeze an ounce more of patience out of your EQ, then I would suggest to hold off until the official 2.1 jailbreak from the DevTeam is released. It probably won’t be too long now before that and an iPhone 2.1 jailbreak is announced to the public.

The new 4G Nano may have been the highlight of the show, but the equally delicious new iPod Touch deserves as much attention as its smaller sibling. The display is pretty much the same, but the case is brand new, contoured, and thinner than ever. The 2G iPod Touch also now features hardware volume controls and built-in speakers both of which are integrated into the design seamlessly. Apple also has included built-in Nike+ support, the new iTunes Genius features, and some minor tweaks to the UI.

[via engadget]

Ok, so no 3G and GPS on the 2G iPod Touch as previously rumored, but the improvements are all very much appreciated. The addition of hardware volume controls makes it easier to use without fiddling around with the UI, and we need not explain how the inclusion of the built-in speaker and Nike+ receiver add a lot to its functionality. Some might argue that it might have been better if Apple completely redesigned the 2G Touch’s exterior, but personally, I still like the stainless steel rear case, and as they say; why fix it if it ain’t broken, right?

If you’re planning to get one, the following are the SRP for the 2G iPod Touch: 8GB - $229, 16GB - $299, and 32GB - $399. So as you can see, Apple also failed to meet our 64GB expectation as well, but we reckon 2009 will be the year that they’ll release such a model.

Kevin Rose was right: the new iPod Nano 4G is curved and tall like the iPod Nanos before the fatty version. It’s already available online from Apple and should be in stores this weekend. Right away, I can say without equivocation that the design is a success. I could also say without equivocation that I am happy I wasn’t tempted to buy a Nano fatty.

The Nano 4G body is curved and made up of aluminum and glass. It has the new “Genius” feature, which is Apple’s take on Pandora’s Music Genome Project. The new Nano also features a G-sensor, shake-t0-shuffle your music. The 2-inch screen resolution is great and landscape mode for viewing videos goes either way. Oh, yeah, unlike the fatty the 9 colors of the new Nano are terrific. The iPod Nano 4G retails for $149 for the 8GB and $199 for the 16GB.

Quick features:

Thinnest iPod ever
Plays 640 by 480 pixel H.264 and MPEG-4 videos at 30 fps
Compatible with Windows Vista and XP (service pack 3 supported)
Plays 24 hours of music, 4 hours of video
Environmentally friendly: mercury free, PVC free and the glass is arsenic free, aluminum is highly recyclable

MacNN has first dibs on a live shot of the real Nano 4G hardware. It’s got rounded edges and it’s orange. Some commenters have pointed out that it had similar form factor to the Macbook remote and it may just be able to control the iTunes on your laptop. Who knows, it would be great if it did. The new design will sure fit in your pocket better. It will also feel more comfortable in your hand - one of the main flaws of the Nano 3G (fatty) design is Apple’s disregard of how users handle their portable players But here’s to hoping the new Nano will come with new features beasides the new hardware.

This clone is way thin as well, which gives us the right to hope the Nano 4G will keep its slim form factor. Honestly, this Nano is less exciting than the fat third-gen Nano.

We certainly hope so.' />

Everybody’s abuzz with the whole Apple event on September 9, and Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer adds fuel to the flame by guaranteeing that “we’re going to rock” at the event. So that more or less confirms a new iPod, but he also had this to say about the iPhone as well:

“We expect to sell more iPhones in the September quarter than in any prior quarter”

Makes you wonder, right? Could it be that they’ll be offering a new iPhone this soon, or could they be lowering the cost again just like what they did when 1st gen iPhone was realeased? Two very enticing prospects, but we can only hope that either is true for now. However, something tells me it’s neither and it’s just a new feature or service they’ll for the iPhone. Oh well, it’s just a few days away so let’s all wait and see, shall we?
